Abstract
A conveyor for conveying small parts (1) whose edges are fitted with plane tabs (2), includes two belts (3,4) and means such as a dual wheel (10) for bringing the adjacent surfaces of these belts together to grip the connection tabs of the parts, then means such as another dual wheel 11 and a pulley (7) with two grooves for parting said adjacent surfaces to release said connection tabs. The belts may be rectangular or trapezium-shaped in cross-section. Application is to conveying printed circuits from one production unit to another. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A conveyor for conveying small parts whose edges are fitted with plane tabs
The present invention relates to a conveyor for small parts whose edges include plane tabs.
It is possible to lay such parts on a conveyor belt to convey them form one production unit to another during manufacturing operations. However, conveyor belts are relatively bulky and are not suitable for transport along a path which is not rectilinear.
Preferred embodiments of the present invention provide a conveyor for small parts of this type, which conveyor is not very bulky and can follow a nonrectilinear path, said conveyor conveying individual parts accurately and adjustably.
The present invention provides a conveyor for conveying small parts whose edges are fitted with plane tabs, said conveyor including two belts with means for bringing the adjacent surfaces of these belts together until they grip the connection tabs of the parts, and further including means for parting said adjacent surfaces for subsequently releasing said connection tabs.
According to a first variant, the belts are trapezoid- al or rectangular and their adjacent surfaces which grip the plane connection tabs are the surfaces of their side edges or of their smallest sides as the case maybe.
According to a second variant, the belts are also trapezoidal or rectangular and their adjacent surfaces which grip the plane connection tabs are the surfaces of their large bases or of their largest sides as the case may be.
Two printed circuit-conveying conveyors in accordance with the above-defined first and second variants are described hereinbelow by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a conveyor in which the trapezoidal belts grip connection tabs of the printed circuits between their side edges;
Figure 2 is an elevation of the dual wheel which brings the side edges of the V-belts into contact with each other;
Figure 3 is a schematic perspective view of a conveyor in which the V-belts grip connection tabs of printed circuits between their large bases; and
Figure 4 is an elevation of the parts which bring the large bases of the V-belts into contact with each other.
The conveyor illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 conveys a printed circuit 1A having connection tabs 2.
These tabs are placed to be gripped between the side edges of V-belts 3 and 4 by a handling unit which is a little way in front of a dual wheel 10. The
V-belts are guided by pulleys 5 and rotating on respective axles 6 and 7, one of these pulleys being a drive pulley. These pulleys have partitions such as 9 which keep the belts 3 and 4 about 1 mm apart. The dual wheel 10 has cheeks 14 and 15 arranged to bring the belts 3 and 4 tightly together and press them together along a vertical plane 16 (see Figure 2). Contact is maintained over the length of the path of the belts lying between the dual wheel 10 and a second dual wheel 11. Beyond the dual wheel 11, the belts are moved apart from each other while still moving towards the pulley 7 and the printed circuits such as 1 B fall onto a receiving unit such as a small conveyor belt 13 or a receiving receptacle.
The conveyor illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 grips tabs 22 of printed circuits such as 21A between
V-belts 23 and 24 which are guided by pulleys 25 and 26 whose axles 27 and 28 are vertical and which are pressed together by tightening pulleys 33 and 34.
The V-belts are guided up to pulleys 35 and 36, after which the belts move apart from each other and move towards respective guide pulleys 29 and 30 whose axles 31 and 32 are vertical. One of the pairs of pulleys 25 and 26 or 29 and 30 is used for driving belts.
The printed circuits gripped between the belts a little way before the pulleys 33 and 34 are driven between these pulleys up to the pulleys 35 and 36, and then, as soon as the belts part a little, they fall onto a receiving unit such as a small conveyor belt 38 or a receiving receptacle.
Figure 4 shows clearly how the tightening pulleys 33 and 34 move the large bases of the belts 23 and 24 into contact with each other in a vertical plane 39.
The invention is particularly applicable to transporting printed circuits from one production unit to another, and also to transporting any small parts whose edges are fitted with plane tabs such as connecting pins.
