Abstract

A process is described for the treatment of waste which includes oil and/oil derived products, contaminated water and solids sludge. The oil constituents are solvent extracted from the waste in a continuous multi-compartment contactor in which the waste materials and a solvent move in separate phases and are brought into contact with one another by buckets rotating in the contactor. The process is applicable to waste material drawn from an oil refinery or from an oil sand lagoon.
