Abstract

In a spigot and socket joint the socket 15 is tapered and has a plurality of flat surfaces which face towards an axis of the joint and engage corresponding faces of the spigot 14 over a substantial area. A screw and nut mechanism is provided to draw the spigot into the socket. <IMAGE>
