Abstract
A gas generator means, for inflating an airbag forming a crash restraint means in a vehicle, has an annular chamber 10 housing a solid gas producing composition 38 and formed by a central pipe 16 with apertures 18 and containing an ignition means 40 serving to ignite the solid composition through the apertures in the pipe, the chamber having a rotationally symmetrical outer peripheral part coaxial with the pipe and connected therewith in a pressure-resistant manner to form an annular trough 20, a plate 22 extending from the outer periphery of the trough to the pipe and closing the open side of the trough in a pressure-proof manner at both outer and inner edges, the plate having apertures 54 for passage of the pressure gas produced on ignition of the composition, the trough comprising a one piece sheet-metal part and formed by a non-cutting cold shaping process, the edge connections 32, 34, 36 with the plate being by means of a weld seam. <IMAGE>
