Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing an anisotropic sintered composite material with aligned structure for electrical contacts for low-voltage power-switching apparatus, using silver/base metal oxide composite powder (AgMeO). In order to improve their contacting properties, an external surface layer of base metal oxide is formed predominantly around the silver/base metal alloy, by suitable choice of the alloying addition, during oxidation of the powder particles of the silver/base metal alloy. The oxidised powder is pressed and sintered, and hot extruded with a transformation degree of at least 50%. Base alloying additions such as zinc, tin or copper are particularly suitable.
