Abstract

A field chopper comprising knife carriers distributed at substantially equiangular spacings on the circumference of a knife drum, adapted to receive knives fixable to the carriers, the length of each knife corresponding to the required cutting width of the knife drum, the knife carriers being mounted to be pivotable, relative to the knife drum, about a pivot axis (1) extending substantially parallel to the axis of the drum, wherein each knife carrier is constituted by a plurality of adjacent part-knife carriers (2), each part-knife carrier (2) being adapted to receive a corresponding part-knife (3) fixable to the part-knife carrier (2) and each part-knife carrier (3) being pivotable about a said pivot axis (1) independently of any other part-knife carrier (3) from a chopping position into an inactive position and vice versa. <IMAGE>
