Abstract

A deck water seal apparatus for example for an oil tanker comprises a housing for sealing liquid having a gas outlet (2); a gas inlet conduit (1); an outer guide (6) surrounding a lower part of said gas inlet conduit; and an inner guide (7) having an open lower end mounted on said outer guide and extending into said gas inlet conduit to a height such as to prevent a liquid overflow in the normal state but to cause liquid overflow into said gas inlet conduit when a back pressure is applied from said gas outlet by any return flow of a gas opposing the normal flow of inert gas through the apparatus. <IMAGE>
