Abstract

201,716. Dessau, M. M., and Plantation Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd. June 24, 1922. Pads and like rubbing and polishing appliances. -A household or other washing cloth comprises a sheet of crepe rubber 1, Fig. 1, having the edges 2 turned over and pressed against the face of the sheet, the whole being then vulcanized to cause permanent attachment of the edges to the main portion of the sheet. A hole 3 for attaching the cloth to a hook is formed by perforating the sheet and turning over the edges 4 of the aperture, before vulcanization takes place. The sheet may be provided with perforations to permit passage of liquid therethrough. In a modification, a sheet of fabric, flannel, wash leather, sponge rubber or other material is incorporated with the sheet of crepe rubber, the edges of the rubber being folded over the edges of the fabric &c. and secured thereto by subsequent vulcanization. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a rubber or other sponge 7 is secured to the centre of the crepe rubber sheet 1, which is wrapped round the sponge during use. A perforation 8 is formed on the sheet to permit passage of water squeezed from the sponge. The edges of the sheet are serrated to provide more effective attachment to the main portion on vulcanization. A ring 9 of crepe rubber or other material is passed through a hole 10 in the sheet.
