Abstract
A fuel injection nozzle 1 has a fuel cavity 2 controlled by a non-return valve 3. The cavity 2 has a cylindrical insert 6 with spiral grooves 7 leading to an outlet bore 9 which has a divergent recess 12 extending towards the outlet end 11 thereby providing an outlet orifice of asymmetrical construction. Recess 12 may have any of the cross- sections shown in Fig. 2, or may be keyhole or tear-drop shaped in cross- section. Alternatively, a cylindrical recess is provided at the upstream end 10 of the outlet bore, from which two separate parallel-sided bores follow divergent paths to the outlet end 11 of the nozzle. <IMAGE>
