Abstract

A hatch cover comprising a number of foldably connected panels (10-21) and adapted to extend over an opening in a ship's deck, the opening being surrounded by a coaming having its longitudinal sides (26a, 26b) considerably longer than its transverse sides. Rails (36, 37) are provided along said sides (26a, 26b) of the coaming and wheels (34, 35) attached to opposite transverse sides of each panel (10-21) run on said rails. The wheels (34) each have a circumferential groove so that they engage the rail (36) and prevent transverse movement of the wheel relative to the rail, whilst the wheels (35) are cylindrical and the rail (37) has a flat upper surface wider than the wheels (35) to allow relative transverse movement between the panels and said longitudinal side (26b) of the coaming. A link between pairs of panels is arranged to allow relative movement also in transverse joints between pairs of panels. <IMAGE>
