Abstract

A sliding-vane type hydraulic pump comprising a housing containing a non-rotatable cam ring 17 and non-rotatable but axially slidable side plates 15, 16. A rotor 20, which may be double-acting (as shown), has vanes 22 engaging with the cam ring and displaces the working fluid to a discharge port 40 by way of pressure-loading chamber 32 so that the side plate 15 is held against the cam ring. The side plates define a bypass cavity 30, which communicates with a discharge flow-control valve 35, which allows surplus fluid to return to an inlet port(s) 24, 27 through the said cavity so as to keep the flow rate at the discharge port 40 constant. <IMAGE>
