Abstract

A liquid crystal display device to display in the light or dark is backed by self-luminous fluorescent material 8 up to 15 micron thick containing promethium 147, formed on a base plate 7 and covered by a protective film 9. The protective film opposes one 16 of the polarizing plates 16, 15 provided on two substrates 12, 11 between which a liquid crystal 13, with its molecules arranged in a twisted orientation, is hermetically contained. <IMAGE>
