Abstract
A vehicle windscreen wiper actuating mechanism comprises a reversible motor which drives a gear wheel 10. A crank pin 13 extends from the gear wheel 10 and has an eccentric member 14 rotatably mounted thereon. The eccentric member 14 has a cylindrical boss 21 whose axis is spaced from and parallel to that of the crank pin 13. A connecting rod 28 has a circular opening 29 engaged around the boss 21. The eccentric member 14 has an arcuate recess 27 in its underside. The ends of the recess 27 define first and second abutments 25 and 26. Stops 36 and 37 are defined by opposite sides of a projection 35 extending from the gear wheel 10 and engaging in the recess 27. A cup-shaped washer 30 rotatable with the eccentric member 14 is urged against the connecting rod 28 by a spring 31. In a forward direction of motor rotation, the first abutment 25 engages against the stop 36 so that a throw T1 of the connecting rod 28 is produced. In a reverse direction of motor rotation, a throw T2 is produced, T2 being greater than T1, movement of the eccentric member 14 relative to the crank pin 13 to change the throw occurs because of the frictional resistance differences in the bearing surfaces between the crank pin and the eccentric member and the eccentric member and the connecting rod. <IMAGE>
