Abstract

201,357. Mitchell, E. A. June 21, 1922. Safety cut-off valves.-In a fluid-pressure distributing system wherein reducing valves are used, a stop valve is placed on the high pressure supply side of the reducing valve and is held open mechanically until the pressure on the low pressure consumption side is so far increased as to release the trip holding device. The valve is re-set by hand. The pressure reducing valve a, Fig. 1 is connected by levers b to a loaded diaphra.gm c, the inlet d thereto being connected by a pipe e to the outlet from the high pressure valve h. The latter is connected by levers to a balanced lever o which has a shoulder catch r adapted to engage with a, trip lever t. The arm u of the lever t is in the path of a rod v on a piston y which is subjected to the reduced pressure in the casing z. The piston has a liquid seal. When this reduced pressure increases the piston y is forced up to contact with the lever t, which is thereupon disengaged from the lever o, and the valve h is closed. The high pressure valve casing may be integral with the reducing valve casing. A double-disc balanced reducing valve may be used.
