Abstract

A decorative wall covering and a method and apparatus for manufacturing same. To avoid the gaps produced in backing sheets laminated with a decorative spun yarn adhered thereto the present invention provides a backing sheet of paper or other flexible material which has parallel lengths of an irregular yarn adhered thereto. Preferably, the yarn is a snarled, brushed, raised, boucle or knotted yarn which is adhered to the backing by a hot melt adhesive such as a polyamide or a polyurethane. The apparatus described comprises a roll of paper 1 precoated with an adhesive which is fed between the nip of a hot roll 3 and a cold roll 7 together with a ply of irregular yarns 4 taken from a creel 5 and spaced by a comb 6. The laminated backing paper and yarns are then fed partly around a cold roll 8 to set the adhesive and the laminate is then wound up to a roll on stand 9. <IMAGE>
