Abstract

A wheel rim having a tyre fitting well, and, adjacent a bead seat 2, a circumferentially extending groove 4 intended to receive the extended toe of a bead of a tyre specifically designed for the rim, is provided with groove filling means 10 so that when a standard tyre, having a bead 8 without such toe, is fitted to the wheel rim and used on a vehicle the bead 8 cannot enter the groove and allow loss of air pressure. The filling means 10 may be formed by a plurality of arcuate metal members connected end-to-end or by a ring of elastomeric material reinforced by a steel cable. If the rim has a groove 4 adjacent each seat 2 two groove filling rings connected by a rubber diaphragm may be provided. <IMAGE>
