Abstract

A transit-time-differential acoustic flowmeter, particularly for use in medical and therapeutic applications, comprises an elongate flow tube 12 having transducers 21, 22 acoustically coupled to the outside of the flow tube and in contact therewith over a fractional part of the circumference of the side wall thereof. The flow tube may have a generally circular cross-section or may have a triangular, square or polygonal cross-section. Acoustic coupling means may be provided between each transducer and the flow tube.
