Abstract

An apparatus for handling fluid and separating a component from the fluid and expelling that component. The apparatus may include an impeller 100 and a separating part 120 relative to which the impeller rotates. When the flow passes the exterior of the impeller a portion of the flow enters the feed conduit 108 downstream of the impeller blades before entering a separation cavity 110 where cyclonic motion splits denser matter such as particles or liquid is ejected by an expulsion conduit 114 whilst clean and dry gas passes down the hollow impeller shaft for use in gas bearings or for cooling.
