Abstract
There is provided a cardiac valve prosthesis used to replace natural valves of the heart wherein the prosthesis has a frame with an annular portion and at least two leaflets and the total height of the valve is correlated with the inner diameter of the valve and the effective orifice area. Scaling of the height of the frame with the diameter of the annular portion is considered advantageous as a reduced height of prosthesis can minimise the risk of abrasion of the aortic sinus and the coronary arteries following placement of the valve.
