Abstract
A regulated power supply Fig. 1 includes a free-running inverter circuit 11 for generating a high frequency square wave signal that feeds a saturable reactor modulator 12 which pulse-width modulates the square wave as a function of a control current through a control winding on the saturable reactor, the modulated power being fed to a transformer/rectifier 14 and filter 15. A feedback circuit 16 supplies the control current to the control winding to regulate the output. An overvoltage protection circuit which inactivates the inverter is also provided. Details of the circuitry are provided as follows: Figs 5a and 5b (not shown) set out the whole system; Fig. 7 (not shown) gives a modification of the output end comprising elements 12, 14, 15 and 16; Fig. 8 (not shown) gives an alternative free- running inverter. The modulator 12, Fig 4, comprises two stacks of ferrite cores 20 threaded with a control winding 22 and series- connected windings 23, 24. <IMAGE>
