Abstract
The surface of an electrochemical measuring electrode 8 is automatically regenerated by withdrawing the electrode from a flowable medium 11 in which measurements are made into a gaseous medium 12, heating the electrode by passage of current therethrough or a heating wire whereby deposits on the electrode surface are removed by heat decomposition, dissociation, combustion or evaporation, and then reimmersing the electrode back into the liquid 11 to be measured. The electrode surface is also conditioned due to a chemical reaction between the gaseous phase and the electrode material. The electrode may be physically raised from the liquid 11 by the device 9 or the level of the liquid lowered. <IMAGE>
