Abstract
A shaft coupling e.g. for the steering column of a vehicle, comprises two rigid members 10 interconnected by a resilient elastomeric element 11. Each member 10 has a plurality of arms 13 extending parallel with the normal axis, successive arms 13 being separated in a circumferential direction by an arm 13 of the other member 10. When rotation of the members relative to one another reaches a predetermined magnitude the arms 13 of one member engage recesses 21 in a stop plate 19 carried by the other member, to prevent further relative rotation and torque overload of the resilient element 11. The resilient element has an embedded reinforcement 16 and is axially constrained between the stop plates 19 of both members 10 so that the resilient element cannot be axially displaced from the coupling, and also the members 10 cannot be separated in an axial direction. <IMAGE>
