Abstract

A telescopic shock absorber, particularly but not exclusively for motor vehicles, comprises a cylinder 1, a piston 2 which is displaceable in the cylinder 1 and which is provided with throttle valves and divides the cylinder 1 into two working chambers 3, 4, a piston rod 15 which is connected to the piston 2 and projects from the cylinder 1 through a cover 6, and an abutment ring 7 on the piston rod 7 which cooperates, towards the end of the rebound stroke, with a cushioning ring 8 which surrounds the piston rod 5 between the abutment ring 7 and the cover 6 and which is resiliently supported relatively to the cylinder 1 by way of a helical backing spring 9 surrounding the piston rod 5, and upon axial displacement by the abutment ring 7 forms an additional cushioning piston. The abutment ring 7 may act on the cushioning rings via a coil or disc spring. The cushioning ring may be ported or valved. It may be in frictional engagement with the cylinder walls. <IMAGE>
