Abstract
200,862. Marks, E. C. R., (Michigan Lubricator Co.). March 10, 1922. Vacuum apparatus.-In a vacuum liquid feeding system such as a fuel feed for internal combustion engines, the suction valve J and the atmospheric valve L are controlled by means operated by differential pneumatic pressure. For this purpose a valve S is provided, held to its seat by the engine suction communicated through the pipe U<1>. This valve resists the closing of the suction valve J by engaging its tapered end V, and when opened by the upward pressure of the float communicates suction to the space L<3>, thereby causing the valve L to be raised against gravity. The check valve W<2> between the inner and outer chambers is arranged to be opened by gravity, but is closed when the inner chamber is under suction by the atmospheric pressure acting through the liquid in the restricted passage V. A shield Z<3> is provided for the float and a check valve may be arranged to prevent liquid from escaping by the air-vent passage 0.
