Abstract

A steering system with hydraulic power assistance for vehicles, has a servomotor (10) adapted to act on the steered members of the vehicle, and a power steering pump (4) which is driven for example by the vehicle's engine and the delivery of which is controllable in dependence on the travelling speed so that it falls with increased travelling speed. An axially displaceable steering valve (8) is provided which is adjustable by an actuating means (steering wheel) and which initiates the operation of the servomotor (10). The steering valve (8) is so constructed as to be open in its mid position. A throttle (6) is provided which has a variable passage resistance and which is connected in the delivery circuit of the pump (4) on the suction or pressure side thereof. The passage resistance of the throttle (6) is controllable in dependence on the travelling speed of the vehicle in such a way that the resistance increases as the travelling speed increases. <IMAGE>
