Abstract

In a remote control system wherein control pulses are sent over an AC power line, the transmitter has a triac 18 (or SCR) in series with a capacitor 20 across the line. The triac is triggered at selected peaks of the AC waveform to charge and provide the pulses. In a two-phase system a receiver on the out-of-phase line will receive weaker pulses than a receiver on the in-phase line. The detector at the receiver can be given such an AC bias as to compensate for this. Alternatively the triac is also triggered (to discharge the capacitor) at each zero crossing point following triggering at a peak, the detector in the receiver being synchronised to detect the control pulses at the zero- crossing points only. A plurality of triacs and capacitors could be used in turn. The pulses could be significant by their number or form a binary code. <IMAGE>
