Abstract

A method for producing 2,2,4- trimethyl-3- hydroxypentyl isobutyrate having the formula: <IMAGE> comprises reacting isobutyraldehyde with solid alkali metal hydroxide or a concentrated solution of the hydroxide. The reaction is preferably carried out at a temperature of from 20 DEG to 100 DEG C.
