Abstract
In a switched mode power supply, duplicated main and stand-by control units 31,41 are provided for supplying pulse width modulated pulses for controlling the switching stage 2 of a DC-AC-DC converter, and change-over switches 21-24 are provided to bring into service the stand-by control unit if the main control unit should fail. A monitor 32 is provided to check that output supply voltages lie with predetermined ranges, and failure in this respect is taken to indicate failure of the control unit so that the change-over switches are operated. An over-riding current limiting circuit is provided to reduce the output voltage if the current exceeds a limit. <IMAGE>
