Abstract

In an iron having a control device containing an electrical heating conductor arrangement provided on or in the base of the iron and a temperature sensing device, the heating conductor arrangement comprises two separate heating conductor circuits (2, 4 and 3, 5), one (3, 5) of which is located at or adjacent to the front part of the base (1) of the iron which tapers substantially to a point and the other (2, 4) of which is located at or adjacent to the rear and broad part of the base of the iron, a respective separate controller (6, 7) and a respective separate sensor (9, 10) assigned to each of the parts of the base of the iron. A single desired valve generator (11) is provided for both controllers (6, 7). By means of this arrangement, substantially all of the base of the iron can be maintained at a uniform desired temperature for ironing. <IMAGE>
