Abstract
The stream of air or other gas which is to be cleaned of particles, e.g. liquid droplets, is conducted through one or more elements (4) each comprising parallel grids (4', 4'') formed of filamentous separating elements disposed at an angle of 15 DEG to 40 DEG to the flow direction of the stream. The velocity of the stream of air or other gas is arranged to be within the range of 10 m/s per second to 70 m/s per second. Collected particles are removed by troughs (5). Wetting liquid may be supplied to the surfaces of the element(s) or sprayed into the air or other gas to aid removal of solid particles by the element(s). <IMAGE>
