Abstract

Manufacture of holloware such as cups, mugs, jugs, bowls and plates by dipping the holloware vertically into a liquid coating such as a glaze in an inverted position. An even coating is achieved by providing a vertical pipe 21 in the dipping tank the upper end of which is located closely adjacent the base of the holloware item 30, so that air or air and coating material can be withdrawn from within the holloware through the pipe. Also disclosed are means 33 for transferring holloware in an inverted position which means also maintain the coating material out of contact with a foot rim of the article when it is dipped. A glaze applicator 54 may coat the base of the mug; the coating material may be recirculated between coating tank 13 and holding tank 10. <IMAGE>
