Abstract

A furniture joint is described in which an elongated plug 1 is mounted to a first panel by inserting a barbed end portion 3 of the plug into an aperture in the panel, the plug including a radial flange 5 which seats on the panel surface, a stem extending perpendicularly to the panel and having a reduced neck portion 7 joining the stem to an enlarged head 8 at the end of the plug. A disc-like element 2 having a segment removed to provide a peripheral flat surface 9 is mounted in a second panel with the flat surface flush with an edge of the panel. A hole 10 in the flat surface communicates with a recess 14 formed in one face of the disc. To form the joint, the plug is offered up so that its head enters the recess in the disc via the hole in the flat surface of the disc, and an insert 27 is then positioned in the recess. The insert conforms with the shape of the recess and has seating surfaces to locate the plug head.The insert is secured by a screw 22. <IMAGE>
