Abstract

A casing of a vehicle transmission has portions 1 and 2 and an axle cover member 3. The portion 1 accommodates a friction clutch 8 in the manual version of the transmission or a torque converter in the automatic version. The portion 2 is fixed directly to a casing 4 of the manual gearbox or, in the automatic version, by way of a bearing support casing, to the casing of the automatic gearbox. In both versions of the transmission, a shaft 20 of a bevel gear 21 of the differential and the differential are the same. This thus provides a substantial simplification and a reduction in the cost price in particular of the automatic version. <IMAGE>
