Abstract
200,341. Akehurst, E. June 24, 1922. Lubricant conveyed by fluid.-Valve stems and guides of internal-combustion engines are lubricated by oil vapour or oil supplied automatically to a chamber 2 surrounding a portion of the valve stem 1 adjacent the guide 3. The chamber 2 may be integral with the valve casing or may be detachable as shown, being held against the casing by the valve spring 14. Surplus oil from the vapour collects in an annular recess 6 in the chamber 2, oil vapour passes from the crank case 4 to the chamber 2 through pipes 15, 17, the opening 9 into the chamber being arranged so that the vapour is directed against the end 11 of the guide. The usual crank-case breather is dispensed with. Specification 191,115, [Class 7 (vi), Internal combustion engines, Valves &c. for], is referred to.
