Abstract

In the production of azo dyes on cellulose acetate goods (threads, fabrics, films, &c.) protective colloids are added to one or both of the baths used; either the base and developer are employed in a single bath, followed by diazotizing in a second bath, or the base is applied in one bath, diazotizing effected in the same bath, and developing in a second bath, or the base or developer is applied in the first bath, followed by diazotizing and coupling in the second bath. Acids or soluble salts may be added to facilitate absorption by the goods, and dyestuffs, which may be diazotizable or not, may be added to shade. According to examples:-(1) acetate silk is first treated in a bath containing aminoazobenzene, b -naphthol, Capri Blue, and boiled-off liquor, to which magnesium chloride is subsequently added, and is then treated in a bath of nitrite and acid; (2) acetate silk is treated in a bath containing aminoazotoluene and boiled-off liquor, then nitrite and acid are added, and the goods are then treated in a developing bath of b -naphthol and soap. Specification 24284/07 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 187,964.
