Abstract

198,843. Eastment, V. S. March 29, 1922. Supports.-For the purpose of preventing unauthorized use, the support or stand of a motorcycle is locked, when in its operative position, by a bolt adapted to engage the strut or arm with which the stand is usually provided, the bolt being controlled by a tumbler lever or other lock clamped to the cycle frame. The stand 7, Fig. 6, hinged to the rear of the cycle frame, is formed as usual with a strut 6 which engages the cycle frame member 2 when the stand is in the operative position shown. The end of the strut enters an opening 4, Figs. 1 and 3, in the casing of a locking-device having two bolts 14 adapted to engage under shoulders 5 on the strut 6. The bolts are engaged by pressing in the hollow extension 20 and are withdrawn by a spring. The bolts are formed with notches 15, 16 adapted to be engaged by the rotary key barrel 9 to hold them in the engaged or in the disengaged positions. When the barrel 9 is turned to a certain position, two slots thereon allow the bolts 14 to be moved from one position to the other. The key barrel is provided with the usual spring pins 11 and with a kev hole. Several modifications are shown in which single or double locking-bolts are employed in conjunction with struts of different shape.
