Abstract

197,125. Baines, E. N., and Schmidt, J. W. March 14, 1922. Winding - machines. - Yarns, threads, &c. are wound into cross - wound cops, cheeses, &c. on a non- revolving spindle a by means of a revolving flyer b, the flyer or the spindle being reciprocated as the cop is wound. The spindle a is secured to a spindle rail a<1>, and the flyer b is fixed to a bar c, which is secured to the end of a hollow spindle d, and is driven from a shaft d' through gears d<2>, d<3>. The flyer spindle d is carried by a rail k<1> and is reciprocated by means of a lever j, which is connected by a link k to the rail k<1>, the lever j being actuated by a face-cam f. The flyer b is provided with a swinging arm m, Fig. 5, which acts as a yarn-guide and which, by the action of a spring n, presses the yarn as it is being wound. The yarn is guided by a grooved fitting m<2> and through a triangular aperture m<3>. In an alternative arrangement the spindle a is reciprocated to build the cop, the flyer being only rotated. The spindle a may be horizontal, vertical, or inclined.
