Abstract
196,160. Brown & Co., Ltd., J., Grant, A. J., and Jones, D. G. March 13, 1922. Filtering.-Blast-furnaces and other gases are filtered on travelling sieves which carry a series of layers of granular or like filtering medium, one layer, which may be of finer material, being deposited on the next, and so on. As shown, a filter chamber c is interposed between a main delivery pipe a and a discharge pipe e, and an openwork belt d is carried through it on rollers. Hoppers m, n, o deliver coarse, medium, and fine siliceous grit &c. on to the belt, the finer layers on top. The grit &c. is automatically removed by the belt, and replaced by clean material; the used material is cleaned and sorted by graduated screens. Two or more filter chambers may be used alternatively or in succession. The belt may be replaced by an openwork revolving disc.
