Abstract

196,070. Edwards, E. M., and Young & Marten, Ltd. Jan. 13, 1922. Locks, square-key and like; obstruction-bars.- Relates to man-hole covers of the kind having a key-plate 13 on which revolves a member 23 carrying the arms 22 which engage recesses 33 in the frame to lock the cover. According to the invention, the key-plate is provided with a keyhole 18 identical in form with the key-hole 25 in the member 23, but set at an angle thereto when the arms 22 are in locking position. The key is first used to remove the dust-excluding plug 17, and after insertion in the key-hole 18 is turned in the circular recess 19 until it registers with the key-hole 25. The arms 22 may then be turned to unlock the cover. When locking the cover the ends of the arms 22 ride up inclines 34 on the frame and pass into recesses 35, as shown in Fig. 9.
