Abstract

Lift valves.-A manually-actuated valve of the kind in which a hollow valve-member slides in a cylindrical casing .supported axially in the pipe-line and is actuated by a hand-wheel acting through bevel and screw gearing has the screw arranged to engage a nut having a limited amount of axial movement in the main valve so as to permit a pilot-balancing valve to anticipate the movements of the main valve. The main valve e has a valveface e<1> adapted to engage a seat a<1> and slides in a cylindrical member b supported by webs c from the outer casing a, relative rotation being prevented by pins f engaging forked lugs g. The screwed spindle l is held rotatably in the casing b by a cap nut o and is coupled by bevel gears k, j to a hand-wheel h<1>. The nut n actuated bv the screwed spindle has a feather connection with a bridge in the main valve and has a collar n<1> adapted to work between a shoulder e<3> in the bridge and a collar q screwed thereto. The pilot valve-member t is mounted on the nut and is arranged to engage a seat u<1> formed on a perforated thimble u at the same time as the collar n<1> engages the shoulder e<3>. A port b<1> admits inlet pressure to the inside of the member b.
