Abstract

Inductances.-Inductance coils with low dipstributed capacity and low energy losses for use, for example, in wireless receiving apparatus comprise skeleton supports of general spherical form having spaced curved arms and wire wound on the supports so that the turns engage each other only at points between the arms throughout the length of the wire, the wires preferably parsing in and out about opposite sides of the arms to form a basket mesh. A truncated hemispherical support of fibre or paper comprises a ring 14 having an odd number of curved arms 15 in and out of which the wire is spirally wound. The free ends of the arms 15 are riveted to the free ends of arms on a similarly-wound truncated hemispherical support to form a truncated spherical coil. Two such coils, one 12 rotatable within the other 10, may form a variometer. The ends of the coil 12 are connected to conducting parts 23, 24 of the operating spindle which are separated by insulation 19. The parts 23, 24 are connected to the ends of the windings on the two supports of the coil 10 through supports 26 for the variometer riveted to arms of the supports for the coil 10 and having bearings for the parts 23, 24. The other ends of the two windings of the coil 10 are connected to the terminals of the variometer. The supports for the coil 12 are mounted on the parts 23, 24 by metal end pieces soldered to the parts 23, 24 and riveted to arms of the supports.
