Abstract

192,979. Elliott, W. S. May 29, 1922. Feed-water, supplying.-Consists in an improvement in the method of de-aeration described in Specification 155,864, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], by elimination of the special evaporator, the heated feed-water being injected directly into the main condenser of the prime mover. The heater 2 with a float-controlled water-supply pipe 3 and spray pans or baffles 7 has a pipe 8 for direct steam heating and a pipe connection 13 from its lower portion to the condenser 10 of the turbine 9. The pipe 13 mav be controlled by a valve 14 actuated by a float 16 in the hot well 11, which has an offtake pump 12. The heated feed-water on entering the condenser is distributed by the condenser tubes and is caused to " flash " by reason of the high vacuum, maintained by an exhausting means ap- . plied at 17. The dissolved gases are removed and the water condensed together with the condensate from the turbine. The heater mav be supplied with raw water, or with water which has been evaporated and condensed in the usual manner.
