Systems depending on the use of two or more motors.-Pairs of motors for driving boring, turning, or other machinery have their field windings divided into two parts and each pair of motors 1, 2 controlled by two single-pole switches S, S<1> and a change-over switch D. By closing the switch S' and setting the change-over switch on the left-hand contact E, the armature B of the motor 2 is connected across the supply main in series with one part F<4> of its own field winding and one part F<1> of the field winding of the other motor, the armature A remaining cut out. In a similar manner either motor can be caused to run in either direction, the current for the armature of the running motor passing through one part of the field winding of both. The change-over switch D may be replaced by a pair of electromagnetic switches controlled by a two-way push-button.
