Alloys.-In uniting by fusion by an electric arc, the iron electrode has an excess of manganese to allow for that lost in the process, and a comparatively large quantity of copper, nickel, chromium, or other element capable of lowering the melting-point without reducing the strength. The managanese may vary between 0À5 and 1À5 per cent, the copper between 0À18 and 0À4 per cent, while the alloy may contain 0À2 per cent of carbon.
