Abstract

17,234. Fairweather, W. C., [Lake Torpedo Boat Co.]. Dec. 8. Submarine vessels. - A submarine or submersible vessel has the middle main ballast tank 9 arranged so that its centre of volume is in substantial vertical alinement with the centre of gravity and buoyancy of the boat, while the forward and after main ballast tanks 10, the auxiliary ballast tank 30, and the final adjusting- tanks 35 are grouped centrally about the centre of gravity of the boat. In the arrangement shown, the ballast tanks are arranged between the inner and outer hulls 1, 2, the tanks being divided off by transverse partitions. The tanks 10 are spaced an equal distance fore and aft of the centre of gravity of the boat, and water is admitted to these tanks through ducts 21<1> leading from central controls 28. The centres of volume of the auxiliary ballast tanks 30 are arranged in transverse alinement with the centres of gravity and buoyancy of the boat, and hand controls 34 are provided for these tanks. The final adjusting-tanks 35 are built within the auxiliary tanks, as shown.
