Feeding -appliances for animals, - A receptacle for poultry food comprises a chamber 1 which is suspended with its back 5 against a wall and is provided at the front with a wire screen 13, through which the birds can extract the food and. which is carried by two frames each consisting of a pair of bars 16 and a yokepiece 17, the frames being linked together by a bar 21, to which pressure is applied by a spring 24. The bar 21 passes through a slot in the standard 8, in the outer end of which is an adjustable plate 25, which is moved to vary the force of the spring and is secured by a pin 27 entering recesses 28, or by a peg passing through holes in the standard. In another form, the standard is of hollow square section slotted at each side, the spring being housed within it and the plate 25 replaced by a plunger. Instead of employing a plate 25 or plunger, the spring may be compressed by a bridge-piece passing through the slot in the upright 8 and secured to the chamber 1 at one end by a series of apertures engaging a hook on the side of the chamber and at the other end by a short chain engaging a hook. In the. form shown in Fig. 13, the standard 8 is dispensed with, the frame 58, which carries the screen 13, being pivoted to a rod 59 encircled by the spring 60, the top of which abuts against the bifurcated bridge-piece 55. The piece 55 is hinged at one end to the chamber 1, and at the other is adjustably held by a hinged lug 66 in which are bayonet recesses 67, and its movement on the rod 59 is limited by a nut 64.
