Abstract

21,060. Kelly, J. A. Oct. 16. Uppers, protecting during lasting and the like.- To prevent an enamel-coated shoe &c. from cracking during lasting, or during the setting of the shoe after lasting &c., the enamel, for example at the toe, is covered with a piece B of rubber fabric or rubber-backed fabric, which is made to adhere to the enamel by means of a hot iron. The fabric covering takes the pressure of the wipers during the lasting operation, and is left in position until the shoe is completed and the last removed. The fabric covering is then cut away, and the enamel cleaned by benzine or other rubber solvent.
