Abstract
20,670. Collett, J. P. Oct. 7. Burial vaults, mausoleums, and the like, draining.- In a mausoleum comprising a number of separate crypts or catacombs, means are provided for carrying off and rendering innocuous the gases and seepage escaping from,the sealed crypts. In the floor of each crypt is a drain-pipe 16, Fig. 3, having its inner end upturned in a depression 17 and covered by a grooved glass or like cap 18, which is easily broken when the coffin is placed in the crypt. The rear ends of the pipes 16 communicate with vertical pipes 15 leading by pipes 20, Fig. 2, to a covered well 14. The well contains quicklime and is surrounded by charcoal in an outer well 13. Gases escaping from the well pass through a pipe 21 to a vessel 22 containing formaldehyde or other germicide.
