A d d i n g - apparatus; differential mechanism; displaying items.-An adding - machine of the chain - and - stylus type has the following construction of detent, transfer, and zeroizing mechanism, and may be provided with itemindicating wheels d<1> which are separated by washers and held frictionally by an axiallyacting spring n<1>. By releasing a knob p' prior to the next setting, springs j<1> are enabled to reset the item-indicating wheels d<1> by bring- ing long teeth o<1> into engagement with pins f<1>. Transfer mechanism; zeroizing-mechanism.- The pinions e are mounted loosely upon the shaft b and carry axial transfer and zeroizing pawls m, n which have notches in which circumferential springs o are mounted. The transfer pawls m project over the adjacent pinions, while the zeroizing-pawls n do not. Disks q keyed on the shaft have cam recesses s for transfer and notches t for zeroizing. Detent mechanism.-Ball detents z<1> for the adding-wheels have springs y<1> bearing against balls x<1> which engage a spring-pressed crossbar u<1>.
