Abstract
8875. Firth & Sons, T., and Strange, H. B. April 8. Projectiles.-Relates to armour-piercing caps made in one or more concentric sections, and consists in making them with a hardened ring at the perimeter of the front face or in the form of a protrusion from the front face, the body of the cap being soft as usual. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the cap comprises an inner cap B with a hardened ring B<1> around its flat front, and an outer cap, C<1> formed in one with a hollow casing C. In other forms, the hardened ring is in the form of a protrusion from a flat, concave, or convex front. In one form, the cap comprises only one part and the hollow casing is screwed to it; in another form the hollow casing is screwed to the outer cap ; and in yet another form the hollow casing is made in one with the outer cap and has thick walls and a still thicker nose.
